New Report: Exploring Training Demand and Supply Challenges
Skills Insight has recently released a report that validates some of the issues and concerns that the Food, Fibre and Timber Industries Training Council have raised to government over many years.
The report alludes to the fact that the Australian vocational education and training (VET) system faces systemic challenges in aligning training supply with industry needs. Suggesting, that many industries, particularly in agribusiness, food, fibre, and environment sectors, struggle to access relevant, high-quality training due to rigid funding models, inconsistent qualification structures, and barriers to delivery in regional and rural areas.
The report highlights that low enrolments do not equate to low industry demand but rather reflect funding constraints, trainer shortages, and policy misalignment. Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) often limit course offerings due to financial viability concerns, leading to skills gaps in critical sectors. Employers frequently rely on informal training due to the complexities of engaging with the VET system.
Considering this report the FFTITC Board will be reviewing the content in line with the FFTITC 2025-2026 Work/Strategic Plan. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact our CEO,Tony Palladino at Tony@fftitc.com.au
